I see what you are saying, for example the 'Lore' tab could contain chapters like 'Red War' and there have a writing, explaining all what was important during that time, like a history book. But the Seasonal story being cohesive is somewhat new. The campaigns still made sense, with Forsaken being by far the most cohesive one, tying it back to the post-campaign story and eventually to basically everything that came after. But most people wouldn't last the entire journey, and most importantly, they would still be forced to read A TON of lore, or watch tons of videos on the lore because only in Arrivals did the Seasons actually start including the overall narrative in a cohesive way. Obviously having the option to play everything would be cool. Maybe even tying some lore items of relevance below a paragraph (like for example, the Red War would go through Ghaul's story, which would eventually talk about Calus, and whenever it focused on Calus, it could tie the weapons and armor pieces below Calus' paragraphs so that people could read on Calus' Exile). A quick thing I can think of is letting players "inspect" every timeline bubble that the Timeline system has, and giving it a more detailed description of what happened, including the Raid story, etc. I do think Bungie needs to find a better way to explain, and I think if they iterate on the new system added this Season, the Timeline system, it would actually work better than giving the players the option to play everything back.
